This WebQuest is designed to help middle school students gain knowledge about different careers and what is going to be expected of them by the institutions that they are interested in attending. I often find that my eighth graders have lofty goals but no motivation to do well in school. Once they see what is going to be expected of them in order to achieve their goals, they often have a better idea of what their educational goals should be. I have provided many links for students in the "Process" section. Many of the college links that I have provided are colleges of interest to my students in the state of Alabama. You may want to look up the websites for colleges that will be of interest to your students if you are not located in Alabama. Your school counselor can really help you with this project. I teach at a junior high, and my counselor does a career inventory with many, if not all, of the eighth graders each year. The counselors at your high school would most likely love to help you with this project as well, as they have more access to information about colleges than the junior high counselor probably does. In my school, our eighth graders begin registering for ninth grade in February and are also required to fill out a four-year plan. I try to complete this project before that time as the students are required in this WebQuest to think about what they need to do in high school in order to achieve their goals.
