This WebQuest was generated to engage students in an interesting activity on the topic earthquakes. By the end of  this WebQuest, students will gain knowledge on:

1. What is an Earthquake?

2. What causes an earthquake?

3. What safety measures can we consider taking before, during and after an earthquake?

4. Plate tectonics and the different types of plate movements.

This WebQuest is appropriate for students in grade level 9-12; this should take about 2 to 3 hrs to be completed. Students will have access to avaliable links on the different varieties of information on Earthquakes, this can be found in "Tasks" and "Process". This WebQuest can also be modified if by any teacher if necessary and it can be used in the classroom as a group or individual work.






Standards

The National Geography Standards

Geography for Life was first published in 1994 by the Geography Education National Implementation Project (GENIP). The second edition was released in 2012. Geography for Life includes three major components which together represent the most current conception of what it means to be geographically literate.

Students should be able:

• To geographical research and investigations

• Develop critical thinking skills such as inferring, analyzing, hypothesizing, and predicting

• To use geographic thinking and information to make well‐reasoned decisions

• To use geographic perspectives, knowledge, and skills to solve personal and community problems.

• To use geographic perspectives, knowledge, and skills to engage in ethical action with regard to self, other people, other species, and Earth’s diverse cultures and natural environments.

• To use geography to connect world events, problems, and decisions throughout their lives."
