Hi,

To use this webquest effectively, it is vitally important that students understand that this is not a regular debate. The main premise of the debate, to illustrate opposing points of view, is still there, but the structure of having a certain number of speakers and the requirements of what they are to say is not. Also gone is the element of competitiveness, to win. Nobody wins in this debate, it would be impossible to judge as every group would always vote for themselves and the others on their side, so the aim is to educate one another and be creative in response to the question of conformity.

This is designed to be used as a formative assessment task, to get an understanding of how deep students knowledge is about the concept of Conformity, and also to test out their skills of creatively illustrating a concept.

The rubric provided in the Evaluation section is for the teacher to mark the students work. You can choose to let the students use it to evaluate themselves or each other or use it yourself to give them marks. I did not design this to be used as a summative assessment as I wanted to allow the students to explore their ability to be creative and come up with original and different ways to persuade an audience.

One last thing! Please instruct students to right click on the internet links and select "open in new tab" or "open in new window" rather than just opening them. Otherwise there will be issue with students opening the link and then closing the window or tab and realising they have closed the whole webquest.

Thanks, best of luck!
