Introduction: The Periodic Table of Elements is your most important chemistry tool! There is a wealth of vital chemistry information on this single table… you just have to learn how to read it. The purpose of this project is to introduce the students to the Periodic Table of Elements and provide you the opportunity to practice reading it. Through this project, the students will become an expert on one of the elements found on the Periodic Table. With the help of the rest of the class they will ccollaborate to become knowledgeable about other elements in the periodic table and how their location in the table predicts their interaction and properties. Learners: The learners for this project are primarily high school sophomores (10th grade). This is an introductory course in chemistry so there is no expectation of prior knowledge of the subject. Standards: Montana's Content Standards for Science grades 9-12 which apply to this lesson: 1—Students, through the inquiry process, demonstrate the ability to design, conduct, evaluate, and communicate results and reasonable conclusions of scientific investigations. 2—Students, through the inquiry process, demonstrate knowledge of properties, forms, changes and interactions of physical and chemical systems. 5—Students, through the inquiry process, understand how scientific knowledge and technological developments impact communities, cultures and societies. 6—Students understand historical developments in science and technology. |
