Greek Mythology WebQuest

This is my first webquest, and I am looking forward to seeing how it works out for everyone!

This webquest requires students to research many of the characters in Greek mythology.  Through their research, they will learn about major gods and goddesses, demigods, heroes, and creatures.  They will also find examples of how mythology affects our everyday language.  Students will examine their research and make inferences about the norms and values of ancient Greek culture and society.  They will compare these with those in our modern culture and society, and write a short essay.  The last part of the project will be to create a modern day god or goddess which reflects our current culture, write a myth about this imagined deity, and create an illustration.

I have included a cooperative learning component in this webquest, so students will not be doing the research individually.  The research portion is fairly lengthy, and may take 2 sessions to complete.  Depending on the level of the students, the writing portions can take more or less time (1-2 periods apiece), depending on your expectations.

I teach English/Language Arts to 7th-12th grade students deemed "at-risk". We use the Common Core State Standards in New Jersey.
