This web quest is a supplemental page that engages chapter historians on a lay level.  It is suspected that the web quest will take a minimum of three hours to complete.

The expectation is that calls or e-mails will be required to contact local members on chapter history.  It is expected that the historians will record or document their information on paper and transfer it to the web quest matrix via the District Historian.  It is expected that chapter historians will confirm all information for accuracy.
He must be aware that members in the fraternity will be able to corroborate correct and incorrect facts. It is prudent that the chapter historian verify all information submitted on behalf of his chapter.

If there are questions, the historian may contact the district historian at:  [email protected].

The District Historian is a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity. Incorporated. He has served as a journalist in written media, most of his life.  His current role as the Ohio District Historian is relatively recent from his transition as webmaster and blogger under Dr, Willis Lonzer's administration.  The District Historian is mentored of Bro. Donald L. Ross, Alpha's Midwest Regional Historian.

Standards

Standards for lay historians emulate that of professional historians. Member of the formal research profession of historicity are are collectively engaged in investigating and interpreting the past as a matter of disciplined learned practice. Even lay or informal historians need to conduct their activities and enlighten their opinions or judgments as they seek to deepen our shared perceptions of the past. The telling of stories about the past, define the entre into the practice of history, whether professional or not.
There are various historical organizations that have drawn up statements on the standards of professional conduct expected of historians. Consider research on historian member standards, in the following bodies --
-- American Historical Association, Statement on Standards of Professional Conduct, quoted in part above
-- Organization of American Historians, Statement on Honesty and Integrity
-- Oral History Association, Evaluation Guidelines
-- American Association for State and Local History, Statement of Professional Standards and Ethics
-- National Council on Public History, NCPH Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct
-- Society for History in the Federal Government, Principles and Standards for Federal Historical Programs
