Medieval Europe, A Case of Class

 

 

FOCUS: This quest allows the student to focus on life in the middle ages. Often a student can become lost in dates and names and forget that real people lived during this time period and that there was a thriving social structure, similar in some ways to today.

OBJECTIVES/GOALS: The objective is for the student to walk away from the quest with a better understanding of the various job classes and social classes present during the Medival period of Europe's history. By placing theirselves in the role, the student gets a much more intimate detail of the way life was during the time period and can better relate to their own life.

RESOURCES: The teacher should work actively with the students throughout the project to make sure they are on task and taking the research seriously. Because this is an activity that requires the entire class the teacher should also preside over the student choice of job class or social class. It may be helpful to list the choices on the board or on a handout to allow the students time to choose. The activity should ideally take four days, three for research and one to present.
