Roman Newspaper

This assignment will take 5 days in 90 minute classes. Students will need to stay focused and on task to meet the time requirements. This assignment is relatively a group assignment  but research and sections will need to be done individually by students in the group. Using the Web quest is a great way to get students interested and active in social studies. This assignment focused on government, historical events, economy, and geography, and gives the students an inside look of how the past and the present are related.

Standards by the Arizona Department of Education
6-8.RH.1 After researching newspaper articles students will be able to analyse economic impacts of the Roman Empire.
6-8.RH.2 Students research and read articles that allows them to be able to critic the decisions of Roman Emperors.
6-8.RH.3 Students communicate how the Roman actions have affected the Empire and its fall.
6-8.RH.4 Students will determine the meaning of words and phrases that are related to the Roman Empire.
6-8.RH.5 Students learn of Roman terms that relate to government and laws. Examples would be twelve tables which are the law Roman laws.
6-8.RH.7 Students use visual formats that increase their comprehension of and make connections to print and digital text.

Credits

This assignment was inspired by an assignment that Dr. Kimberly Jackson used in her 6th grade class at North Valley Academy in Gooding, Idaho.
