Focus: The focus of this webquest is the 2008 Presidential election. It is meant to teach students to be responsible, informed citizens when voting. It is also meant to give them experience in the art of campaigning. Target Group: This webquest could be used with middle school or high school students. Standards: This webquest meets the following Pennsylvania State standards: 5.2.12.E Analyze how participation in civic and political life leads to the attainment of individual and public goals. 5.3.12.F Evaluate the elements of the election process. Resources Needed: Access to the Internet, art supplies, list of web sites, sample issues chart, video cameras (optional), additional news sources Additional Notes: Before using this webquest, students should be taught several lessons on the democratic system of government. A lesson on the role of the President would also be useful in helping the students to identify the strengths of candidates. This webquest would fit nicely into a unit on elections or current events. Additional web sites or information from news sources would also be useful when teaching this webquest. When using this webquest, the teacher should be available to answer any questions and encourage students to be creative and responsible citizens.
