Students Level:  grade 9 -12 (secondary)

Age: 15-18 years old

Number of students: 35 -(more or less)

General objective: To enable students to learn about  cells.

Specific objectives: Students will be able to define a cell, state the cell theory, identify the the different types of cells and the different organelles in both animal and plant cells. they will be able to explained the  functions, as well as to talk about and present their findings to the rest of the class and reflect on their learning.

Materials: computers, internet connection, the files they need to complete the tasks are on the webquest page. 

Procedure:
  • Introduction: Teacher asks sudents: what do you think a cell is. She and the students discuss the ideas.
  • The students watch the videos in the resources for the introduction in the web quest then correct their  responses as they discuss their findings.
  • The teacher explains to the students that they are going to learn about cells through  a web quest.  All the information needed will be placed on the page.
  • She explains the outcomes of the research and what topic of  cells they will present on. She can determine how to grade the presentations. She will guide, monitor and help students when needed. 

Students are expected to complete the tasks, collaborate then present their findings to the rest of the class, learn something new and finally they are encourage to reflect on the topic.
