This WebQuest is designed to use a variety of materials and resources to help 8th grade students better understand the strands being studied in World History and American History. The Geography of places and important dates, issues of global concern and locations of events in history such as  George Washington crossing the Deleware and the environmental issues of South Africa such as water pollution and threats of famine were used to help students understand the impact of these concepts and how they affect us all.  We suggest that the students be given 5 days to complete this assignment. We also suggest that these activites be kept seperate as outlined to prevent students from becoming over whelmed some students may require more time to complete individual assignments. Please allow the time during blocks to do this so they have your support as needed. They will work hard and learn a great deal!

Other

Please do use videos and pictures to help students with their understanding of the concept strands for social studies. Even though the students may be in your class on 6-8th grade level and your exspectations of them are high some many not yet be at the required reading or grade level. Some students may have learning disabulities that our adaptabilty of Social Studies information will help to succeed. We used lots of visual presentations in this webquest because students informed us that they enjoyed the information best in this format. We hope you like it and will feel free to adapt it as you will to meet the needs of your students.
