Electricity and Magnetism

You are a member of the Crime Scene Investigative unit (CSI).  Your boss has given you a new case involving a large city bank that was recently robbed.  The local police department is completely stumped, there was no evidence of explosives, yet the metal door to the safe looked like it was pulled off with extreme force.  There were no finger prints, and the surveillance system had been damaged and no picture could be recovered.  The only items found at the scene of the crime was a large battery, some copper wiring, and an iron rod.  Your challenge is to figure out how the criminals were able to forceably remove the metal door, and disable the surveillance system.  

Once you have cracked the case, you should create a fully functioning replica, and present a one page report on the information you discovered and how it helped you to solve the crime.
