Task

20100428044600yBubu.jpg

In the following section each of you will find 3 images to consider and critique.  The artist and title will be provided.  You will be responsible for:

  1. Describing the piece biographically, identifying the materiality and outstanding characteristics, situating the piece within the artist's own canon, and if the artist was part of any 'movement.'
  2. Based upon what you have learned about the artwork thus far, speculate as to what the artist was saying and why?  How do you feel when looking at the work?  Does the artwork contain symbols that may represent other things?
  3. Do you like this artwork?  Why or why not?  Be prepared to defend you answer in our class discussion.
You should write at least one paragraph for each section above.  Below I have attached a link  to refresh your minds about the critique process:)

how to critique

PRESENTATION:
Using the links provided below, search the image databases of the institutions and choose one painting, sculpture, photograph, print, or installation to present to the class.  Your presentation should last 10 minutes and follow the critique template of description, analysis, evaluation, and judgment.  Your presentation can be done with power point, micro soft word, or any other presentation software.  Or, you can present old school using an overhead projector or reproduction.  Ultimately, the class has to see the work you are talking about.  Have FUN with this--consider it your chance to present something wild or cool that moves YOU.  Chances are, we're going to like it to.
