At the end of this WebQuest students will be able to understand the concept 'foreshadowing' which is a unique literary device. Foreshadowing engages the reader by sharing clues that cause the reader to try to predict and analyze the outcome of the text while keeping the reader in suspense. Students then should be able to identify and use this concept to analyze a literary piece from the class text "The Great Gatsby."

Students should be able to:

  • explain the concept of foreshadowing after observing pictures and watching a video clip.
  • identify and state four ways in which foreshadowing helps to enhance a literary work.
  • analyze given excerpts from the class text "The Great Gatsby" using this concept.
  • in groups of four, present a summary of the selected section of text using Powerpoint or podcast videos.

The instruments that will be used to complete the task are available in the classroom.
