TKAM- Racism

For the Theme of TKAM, I am doing racism. I think this is the theme, because many of the major events that happen in the book revolve around racism, such as the Tom Robinson Trial, the Black Church, and general little everyday scuffles. The quotes from the book are, "Scout," said Atticus, "nigger-lover is just one of those terms that don't mean anything—like snot-nose. It's hard to explain—ignorant, trashy people use it when they think somebody's favoring Negroes over and above themselves. It's slipped into usage with some people like ourselves, when they want a common, ugly term to label somebody." and ¨Lula stopped, but she said, "You ain't got no business bringin' white chillun here—they got their church, we got our'n. It is our church, ain't it, Miss Cal?" Shmoop Editorial Team. "To Kill a Mockingbird Race Quotes Page 1." Shmoop. Shmoop University, 11 Nov. 2008. Web. 21 Feb. 2017.
