Choctaw Indians and the Trail of Tears

Task 1: You will be watching a short Trail of Tears Documentary and will begin completing the Trail of Tears Video Worksheet with your small groups.

Task 2: You will be watching a Trail of Tears Map video and will be completing the Trail of Tears Video Worksheet with your small group.

Task 3: You will be looking at the Indian Removal Act Map and will be completing the Indian Removal Act Map Worksheet with your small group.

Task 4: You will be following a link to an Indian Removal Act and Trail of Tears webpage and then will be reading specifically about the Choctaw Trail of Tears facts. Then you will be completing the Choctaw Webpage Worksheet with your small group.

Task 5: You will be using the information you have gathered about the Choctaws, the Trail of Tears, and the Indian Removal Act from the sources in Task 1-4 to write a letter in which you are pretending that you are a Choctaw Indian enduring the Trail of Tears.

Task 6: You will be performing a piece about the Trail of Tears for the other 4th grade classes to advocate for and inform them on the Choctaw Indians. Some of you will be selected to read your letters, while the rest of the class will be re-enacting the Trail of Tears in a movement activity. *Service Learning*
