EOL: Understanding the Process
Task
- Review all reading materials given
- Watch the videos and visit the websites on EOL given or explore other sites: Ex. ELNEC site
- Think on the difference between End-of life care vs. Palliative care
- Make note of your state nursing scope of practice as it relates to EOL
- Look at the interdiscipinary team function in this process
- Gain an understanding of pain management
- Look at the types of directives, as they relates to patient and family wishes
- Look at the culture surrounding EOL, and be able to understand at least one culture and their perspective on end of life and their rituals
- Gain an historical insight to EOL world wide, look more to the politics and policies from organizationl like the WHO
- Look at how you can develop your communication skills to better prepare your practice
- Reflect on our values and world view of EOL
- Add something that you would like to learn or take away from this experience............................
- Completion of this blended e-learning in 2 week from today on 12/21/15 in this classroom: The assignment for this meeting will be a verbal presentation.
Today's task: (0900- 1700 hours) with a 1hr lunch break
- We have here 12 nurse from our three medical-surgical units, 2 from PC, 2 from ED, and 2 from ICU (18rns)
- We will be in groups of 4s for today and you can continue the online sessions as groups if you so desire
- Each group will discuss among yourselves what you understand palliative and EOL to mean, after which the groups will share their findings with the class.
- Each will have 10mins to discuss and another 10mins sharing with the class.
- I will give an overview EOL using the two videos and two artcles in the resource list below and hightlight the main ideas and build a discusssion around those points.
- We wrap-up with questions.
- Remember to complete the evaluation on-line from the portal on your respective units.
