You will work in groups of FOUR students for this project (that makes a total of eight groups). You will choose a country from the provided list, and you and your group will conduct research about the fairytales/folktales/fables of that country, including history, format, traditions, and all other aspects of that country's folklore history that you feel will be helpful. You must also pick a time period for your story to take place in. You want to be sure your story has some historical accuracy. Keep in mind, however, that it cannot be totally historically accurate, because you are writing a piece of fiction based on mythical or fantastical characters! Then, using the provided list, each group member will select at least one story to read that belongs to their country. It is preferable that students do not all read the same story. As you read, make notes about the elements you notice that you would like to use in your own story. After you have completed your research, you will work together to write a story that is at least 600 words long and contains a moral. The more colorful your characters are, the better. Creativity is encouraged. Be prepared to share your stories with the class when you are finished.

Make sure your stories include the following:

  • A minimum of three characters, including a protagonist and antagonist
  • Three historical facts about your country or culture (related to the time period you chose)
  • Two traditions held by the people of your country or culture
  • A problem to be solved
  • An exciting incident / climax
  • A moral
TECHNICAL ISSUES:

The final product will be your own story, but you are encouraged to use as many digital tools as you want: photography, audio,  video, PPT, OpenOffice, Prezi...
