I hope to provide children with an education which will help them to succeed in America's ever-changing global economy; however, if I simply make a difference in only one child's life, then I will have accomplished what I set out to do.

Description: I truly believe that educating children is the most challenging, rewarding, and sometimes the most frustrating task one can imagine! Those who have chosen education as a career, in my opinion, have chosen one of the most magical careers in the world. Because I believe in the power of one, I believe that each teacher can choose to make a difference, a magical difference in the lives of every student that walks through their classroom door. Do you ever feel like this teacher pictured? Why do you think this happens? The answers are truly rather simple and unfortunately ignored by many educators today. Through my seven years of education and through my countless hours of working with children, I have noticed that many teachers have all but lost their zest for education. Even further, many teachers have seemingly forgotten one of the most important elements of teaching: building a strong and trusting relationship with their students! All too often, I continuously encounter teachers who continue to implement the traditional rote-style, stand-offish, non-flexible method of teaching and continue to ask, "Why are my students sleeping, misbehaving, and continuously trying to run for the nearest exit or jump out the second story window?" Well it is this simple: teachers must encourage hands-on learning, create lessons that are interesting for their students, develop activities which spark excitement in their students, embrace lesson flexibility, get to intimately know their students, and STOP trying to plan for EVERY second of every lesson (which sets one up for failure every time). In other words, teachers must learn to expect the unexpected, take risks when teaching, and modify and adjust as needed... THIS IS SO MUCH OF WHAT EDUCATION IS ALL ABOUT!
