For the first task in the WebQuest, you will view websites focusing on the geography of Washington State, including a number of different types of Maps.

Through the course of your exploration of the FOUR web links (Resources 2-5), you will have gathered enough data to complete your own map of Washington State

Activity 1: You will review Web pages listed in Steps 2-5 of the Resources section of this website. You will fill in the proper data on a blank map of Washington State.
You MUST include the following:
-The longitude and latitude at the Northern, Southern, and Eastern land borders of Washington State.
-At least two mountains
-At least two rivers
-Grand Coulee Dam
-Two major freeways.
-The following Cities: Wenatchee/East Wenatchee, Spokane, Seattle, and Olympia.
-The names of all bordering States and Countries should be written just outside the borders of Washington State.

Activity 2: You will review the website labeled "The Oregon Treaty". This site provides an overview of the Treaty of Washington, which set the US-Canadian Border at the 49th parallel (49 degree North-latitude). Since you live within a few-hour drive from the Canadian border, this Treaty greatly affected how you live your life.

Reading through the pages answer the questions on the provided worksheet.

Tomorrow you will create a second map of Washington State. This map will be a fictional look at what Washington would look like if the British had been successful in their attempts to set the US-Canada border along the Columbia River.
What would the Capital City of this new Washington State be? Include this on your map.

Activity 3: Write a journal entry about how you think life would be different for you if the Columbia River, which runs through our valley, was an international border. You must complete at least one full page of writing and mention at least 4 ways in which your lives would be different. You must include 2 ways in which the Government of Canada is different than the government of the USA (Please see the first Web Link listed below in the Resources section).

Activity 4: Review the website on the timeline of apple production. As the Wenatchee Valley is the "Apple Capital of the World," apple production has a massive impact on the local economy. You will read about apple production and then create your own timeline.

Each timeline must include: Spring, Summer, Fall, and Winter-each Season should include a drawing of what an apple tree looks like and two tasks that an apple grower must complete during that season.
