You'll begin your quest by examining two well-known classic children's novels that have been adapted to film multiple times: Alice in Wonderland and The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe.
Both novels have recently been adapted again (Alice in Wonderland in 2010 and The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe in 2005). You can watch these new adaptations on DVD, if you are curious about them, but it is not necessary to complete your quest!
- Read the first chapters of Alice in Wonderland and The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe. You can follow the links to read them online OR check the books out of the library.
- Watch the video clips of Alice in Wonderland and The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe
- Take note of differences and similarities among the different movie adaptations AND between the movie versions and the original text.
- Organize your thoughts by creating a Venn Diagram for either Alice in Wonderland or The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe.
- Follow the links below for more information about Venn Diagrams, and to download a simple format for creating your own Venn Diagram online!
- One circle of your Venn Diagram should contain information about the book; the other circle should contain information about the movie. The middle of the Venn Diagram should contain information that applies to both the book and the movie.
- Remember to focus only on the first chapter of EITHER Alice in Wonderland OR The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe. Think about how the book is the same or different from the movie.
