Nutrition:  Meal Choices          

Directions: 

Open the file attached located at the bottom of this page under the resource tab and complete the document.  Use the internet sources provided to complete the following steps.

Step 1:   

Complete the table provided by writing in foods and beverages that you would like to eat and drink for each meal.
  
Step 2:   

Complete the table provided by writing in each food or beverage item listed above.  In the right column list the amount of calories each item contains.  You can use the calorie counter at http://www.acaloriecounter.com/ to complete this chart.  Total the amount of calories in the right column. 

Step 3:   

Take the quiz at http://www.nutritionforkids.com/emlnews/FK-May09.htm to determine what kind of eater you are then complete the table with the information provided.  Include additional comments about whether this is "good" or "bad" based on your own thoughts. 

Step 4:   

Get familiar with the food pyramid by visiting http://teamnutrition.usda.gov/Resources/mypyramidcloselook.html. Click on �Download PDF�

Step 5:  

Use http://teamnutrition.usda.gov/Resources/mypyramidforkidsposter.htm to look more closely at the food groups on the food pyramid.  Use the information you find to complete the table provided by typing in the names of the different groups and then listing some food options for each groups. 

Step 6:   

Visit http://www.mypyramid.gov/mypyramid/index.aspx and put in your information and click submit.  The next page may ask you if you would like to see a plan for your current weight or a plan for weight loss.  Click on the one you prefer.  The next page will offer you information about how many calories you should be taking in each day.  Use the information on this page to complete the questions provided.
   
Step 7:   

Based on all that you now know complete a new menu of foods and beverages that you would like to eat for each meal.  This time try to chose healthier options if you did not do so before.

Step 8:   

Complete the table provided again but this time type in the healthier menu items. In the right column list the amount of calories each item contains.  You can use the calorie counter at http://www.acaloriecounter.com/ to complete this chart.  Total the amount of calories in the right column.    

Step 9:   

Use all the information that you have found to complete the questions provided.

Step 10:
