Before visiting the museum you should consider the proper way of looking at artwork.

Where do you find the name of the artist?

Title?

materials?

Is it an oil, acrylic?

When was the work created?

The answer to all these questions are in the label usually placed next to the wok of art:

 1. NAME OF THE ARTIST

 2. TITLE OF WORK

 3. MEDIUM (the materials used by the artist: oil, acrylic, steel, marble)

 4. CURRENT OWNER OR COLLECTION

Now that you have located this information, you are ready to approach the work of art.

As you approach each art piece, remember that Francis Bacon created his work to tell a story or evoke an emotion. Think about what you see, look deeper than when you look at photohgraph at home. First, look at the technical aspects of the painting. Are the colors vibrant or muted? Does the texture of the piece look smooth or rough? Are the lines precise or jagged? Is the composition balanced or askew? Is your eye drawn to any particular area of the painting? (And if so, where, how, and why?)
