Stage 1

Students will work with a partner and select two habitats of the following: forests, grasslands, rainforests, deserts, tundras, and ocean. They will test their knowledge on habitats by comparing and contrasting their two chosen habitats in the format of a Venn Diagram.

Stage 2

Students will research their habitats online to check their understanding and learn even more about their habitats. The class can use the following resources to learn about their habitats:

http://pbskids.org/wildkratts/habitats/

http://www.mediabistro.com/alltwitter/social-media-stats-2012_b30651

http://environment.nationalgeographic.com/environment/habitats/

These websites should provide the students with enough information to list 10 - 15 plants and animals for each of the two different habitats they have chose to research.

Stage 3

The pairs must now put together a presentation that will explain to their classmates all about the different habitats. The students can choose to present in any creative way of their choosing, whether through an invented song or skit, through dioramas, posters, or a storybook. Children are free to present in different styles, but must be sure to include key details about each habitat, such as the common temperatures, the amounts of precipitation, and typical animals that populate these habitats.
