Tree Branches of Government
Process
Students will be creating "A Tree Branch of The Government."
Students will be divided into groups of 4 to 5 persons. The assignment will be for each group to choose a branch of the government and provide leaves that describe the jobs and responsibilities of the branch of government of their choice. One group will be given the assignment of creating the truck of the tree from the Preamble of the Constitution. Students will be given web sites they can search for information on each branch. Groups will use the classroom wiki to show which sites and references they used for information.
Students will watch YouTube - School House Rock- " Electoral Process" to see the electoral process in action.
Each group will create a blog using bloggers.com that will have answers to critically thinking questions and give feedback on their thoughts of the activity.
Each group will also create a web page on Adobe.com that will be a platform for a candidate that will be chosen form the group for any office.
Finally students will put on a mock election by choosing one person from their group to run for public office. Teachers from other classrooms will come in and be the electoral college and chose the winner.
