Step 1: Data Collection (Multiply and Add)
You will follow links to various websites to collect your data for this project; the price of school supplies. CALCULATE FINAL BILL. (If for any reason links do not work, you must find your own.)

Step 2: Sales Tax (Multiply and Subtract)
You will calculate the sales tax for your TOTAL of all supplies from different stores. There will be a resource link at the bottom of the task page on converting percents to decimals (6th graders, this is a forthcoming standard). CALCULATE FINAL BILL.

- Sales Tax in Georgia is 7 % - see video below (under resources, in blue, below) for assistance in changing percents to decimals, to multiply. You will next subtract this value from your total amount from step 1.

Step 3: Discount (Multiply and Subtract)
Your awesome uncle has agreed to cover 1/3 of your total supplies. So you will convert this fractional discount to a decimal (see resource, in blue, below) and multiply to calculate the cost that will be deducted (subtracted) from the final bill (including tax). CALCULATE FINAL BILL.

- Now you must convert 1/3 to a decimal. See resource video for assistance (in blue, below). Subtract your calculated amount from your total bill from step 2.

Step 4: 2nd Discount (Divide)
Your 2 sisters and 1 brother have decided that they would like to go in, 3 ways, to pay for ALL your supplies to help out your guardian. What is their individual cost? Remember there are no remainders, they must receive a decimal amount. CALCULATE 3 FINAL BILLS.

- Finally, you will divide your total amount from step 3 by 3. You will have 3 individual amounts that each of your siblings will pay (in blue, below).
