A Metric World - Let's Convert

STEP 1: The teacher will divide the class into six to eight groups of two to four, depending on class size. This will allow time for everyone to compete in the game.

STEP 2: (Week 1) each group will gather information on the English (Imperial or standard) system via the web. Then practice conversion between units and complete the assigned worksheets, to be graded by the end this step.

STEP 3: (Week 2) each group will gather information on the metric system via the web. Then practice conversion between units and complete the assigned worksheets, to be graded by the end this step.

STEP 4: (Week 3) each group will gather information on converting between systems via the web to enhance what they have already acquired. Then practice conversions between systems  and complete the assigned worksheets, to be graded by the end this step.

STEP 5: Jeopardy Week, draw metric straws, the shortest three will start; the rest will be played longest to shortest replacing the lowest scoring team in each round. A team remains until ousted. The teams not in play help run the game and keep score.

Note: Remember the web is not the only place to gather information. Be sure to explore your textbooks and visit the school library.
