  • Hero's Journey Chart
Description: After you have watched your movie, complete this chart. You will notice that there are many more detailed parts of the stages that you have already heard about - do your best and analyze the description of each one to relate it to the movie you watched. Most of them should occur in order, but not always. The basic stages must stay in the order you learned them, but the details are often in a different order.

Step 2: Let's Take One More Look
Description: Ok, now that you have the general idea, let's take one more look at the stages of the journey. Notice that each person describes and or names the stages slightly differently. Look closely and critically and you will see that the overall ideas behind each stage are the same.
Step 4: Modern Myth Connections
Description: Obviously, the hero's journey is alive and well in the modern stories we read and watch every day. Let's apply your newly acquired knowledge of the hero's journey to a modern story. 1. Look at the list of movies below and choose one to watch. *Note: Most of these titles are available on Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon Prime if you have subscriptions. Your local library is also a really great source for borrowing movies. If you are really stuck, see your teacher. Acceptable titles: The Lion King The Hunger Games The Wizard of Oz Star Wars (Episode One is best) Harry Potter (movie #1) Mulan Spider-Man Finding Nemo Jaws Tron Matrix The Hobbit 2. Choose a partner (optional) that will watch the same movie as you. 3. Set aside time to watch the movie of your choice. Keep in mind what you have learned about the stages of the hero's journey as you watch and keep an eye out for those patterns in the movie.
Step 5: Your Own Monomyth!
Description: Time to get creative! Using the online program link below, create your own mini-myth that follows the stages of the hero's journey. You will need to print the final product as a PDF. The program does NOT allow you to save your work, so choose make sure you allow enough time to complete this section (20-30 minutes?). After you save the PDF, you will upload it into your Google drive and share it with your teacher via his or her Google drive account.
