Series circuit

A series circuit flows through only one pathway. A single break in the circuit will stop the flow of electricity.

Parallel circuit

If there is more than one pathway, the circuit is called a parallel circuit. Because there is more than one path for electricity, a break in the pathway will not affect the entire circuit and everything connected to it.
