Process

DAY ONE:   Group One will write a narrative to develop real or imagined experiences or events.

Group one will meet and discuss the story "The Relatives Came."  The group will think of their own experiences with family and create a new story of their own, based on the information they discusses together. The story will be comprised of each members details about their own family experiences, creating a funny and entertaining story. They will watch the video on how to write a story. The group will write their story, making sure to use correct punctuation, capitalization, introduction, body, conclusion and resources. The group will come up with their own title of the book. Be mindful of plot, character, climax, resolution, etc... - all that we have already learned about making a story.

*Group two will read/learn how to illustrate a book from the website provided. *Group Three will read/learn how to direct/act in a play and how to make a play from the website provided below.

DAY TWO:   Group Two will make drawings/illustrations for group one's story.

Group two will get the story from group one and illustrate the book. They will create a cover that embodies the story and add illustrations throughout the story that reflects what the authors meaning for each page or pages is. Don't forget our lesson on how important the illustrator is and how important their role is in making the story. Remember, there are a lot of struggling readers who look to the picture for word clues when they can't pronounce a word! The group may use watercolors, markers, colored pencils, acrylics, and/or crayons to illustrate this book.

*Group one will refine their story, grammatical, spelling, etc. while the book is being illustrated. You can make changes since the illustrations are being done on a separate piece of paper. The two will be put together at the end of the activity. *Group three will read the story. The director, co-director and actors are chosen, and they will work on practicing parts, making props, etc...

DAY THREE:   Group Three will create a play for the story. They can act it out, or use the illustrations and narrate the story. They will make a recording of this story/play.

Group three will get the story. They will set up the technology to record the play. Think back to when we did our interactive play. What made a good play? How important is casting? Do you cast your friend because they want the lead role or the person who will do the best job? How important are using the right props? Use this information wisely while filming your play. You may choose to have a narrator and actors or put on a full play. The choice is yours.

*Group one will proofread their story one last time. *Group two will add finishing touches to the illustrations, layering colors, etc...

DAY FOUR:   All three groups will come together and run through the activities, making sure all details are correct and in order. This is a good time for other groups to evaluate your work for any mistakes. Groups one and two will assemble the book at this time to present to the teacher. Group three will make sure the play was recorded correctly and edit where necessary.
