Process for Day1:  American History

Step 1:  You will use each of the links below that's provided for information on the American holidays.

Step 2:  You will create a timeline which will include chronicles of the major events that caused any changes to your holiday.   These following events on the timeline will be included:

                        1.     American Revolution

                        2.     Civil War

                       3.    Stock Market Crash of 1929

                        4.    World War II

Process for Day 2:  World History

Step 1:  You will identify the important facts about your chosen holiday:  

 

You will use this site to answer the following questions:

        1. What part of the population actively participate in the holiday?

        2. Where are the large areas which celebrate with the biggest celebration?

        3. What events caused the beginning of the holiday?

        4. How has the holiday changed over time?

        5. Add three more important details about the holiday.

In your journals,write at least 10 factual sentences about the holiday in your own words.

Process for Day 3:  Civics and Government

You will learn more about how a government can be involved in creating holiday celebrations.

Find a website which describes your holiday and the country where it occurs. Research the government of that country and create a list of 10 bulleted points which involve the government in holidays (not necessarily your chosen holiday).

Look for holidays which celebrate freedom or other major political events.

After you have found all the information that you need about government and holidays, make a list of 10 rights which the citizens have gained or lost from the government holidays. Compare and contrast them with the rights we enjoy as U.S. citizens.

After completion of these assignments, then you will place them in your social studies journal. 

You will answer these questions:

           1. What role does the government play in celebrations?

           2. At this time are there any rights that you feel think were lost or gained because of the government�s intervention?

Process for Day4:  Geography 

Step 1: You will log on to the video on Landforms.

 Step2:   You will make flashcards for each of the landforms presented in the video.   Then you will write on each flashcard the landform and on the other side you will define it and illustrate it for future vocabulary practice.  When you finish doing that then you will place your flashcards into your social studies binders.

 Step 3: From the video you will choose the landform that is closest to the geography of your chosen country and create a list of natural resources that can be found that are unique for those landforms.  Other resources for this assignment may be needed.  After completion of this assignment, then you will place it in your social studies binder. 

 Step 4: Please use gold star stickers to indicate resources which are renewable

 


Process for Day 5: Economics

The link below will give you access to learn about money and the role it plays in your celebration.

One member of your group will be given $100 U.S., an second member will be given $500 U.S. and a third member will be given $1000 U.S. Tell what objects you can buy for your celebration. You will need to use the conversion rate for money in your country.

Make sure that you spend all of your money on your celebration.

Draw a poster showing your celebration. Indicate each of the items you have purchased with your money with a balloon sticker. Make a legend telling what each item is and how it fits into the holiday celebration.
