  1. First you must research the land in the mountains. This will allow you to learn what the land is made of and it will help you determine where you want to place your log cabin. You may research from books and the internet. The internet is most likely where you will get most of your information. You will then research what types of trees grow in these mountains. You will have to research what the pioneers made their log cabins out of and you will have to describe what materials you will use and what type of layout you will have for a cabin of your own.
  2. Second, you will have research what type of soil is in the mountains. You will have to come up with what vegetables you want to plant in order to survive. Remember, you have to have means of watering your plants and having water for your animals. You might want to consider this when you decide on a place to live.
  3. Third, you need to research what types of animals live in the mountains. You will have to research how to hunt them and what is the best way to eat and cook them. Remember, it is cooler in the mountains, it snows and rains there. You will have to come up with some way to store the meat that you have killed. Research this topic also.
  4. The fourth thing that you must do is to decide how many and who is going to live with you. You will need to research how pioneers lived. How many people lived with them, and how many kids and family members they have. You will assign them names and tell if they are male or female. You will then assign each person chores that they have to do each day or each week.
  5. After you have researched all of this information, you can either write a summary of how you are going to do all of this, you can construct pictures showing how everything will look, but be sure to include side notes, or you create a slide show.
  6. You must then create a journal of all your thoughts a feelings that you encountered on your adventure. You will include in this part what all your troubles were when you built your cabin, planted your food, hunted your animals, and assigned chores. Be sure that these problems are ones that would have happened in pioneer times. Example- Me and my brother got into a fight because he was using my ipod... We will write in these journals each time that we are in the computer lab. They don't have to be lengthy, just include enough information to cover the subject.
  7. After you have completed each of these tasks, you task is complete. This project will take longer if you do everything only when we come to the computer lab. You might want to do some research at home in order to complete the task sooner. You will have time to do it all in class if a computer is not available for you at home.
