Day one: You will read the attachment "Why People Came to the New World. You will then divide into groups and brainstorm to answer questions on why people came to the New World. Use the sheet provided by the teacher (attachment).

Day two: Review "Why People Came to the New World" and create a time line by filling in the blanks on the sheet provided by the teacher (attachment).

Day three: Study table of information on the 13 colonies and use that information to make a map of your own by filing in the spaces on the sheet provided by the teacher (attachment).

Day four: Using a venn diagram compare and contrast a Monarchy and a Democracy by visiting the websites listed below.

Day five: Read "European Exploration : Causes and Effects" and pick a cause and the immediate and/or long term effect of that cause and create a power point of at least 3 slides to present to the class.

Vocabulary Words: colony, religious freedom, explore, traders, stockholder, inherited, adventure, opportunities. Students will come across these words during reading and doing activities and will be able to understand their meaning.

Differentiated Instruction: Level one is assisted by paraprofessional if one is assigned. Otherwise student is assisted by another student or assigned to a group. Level three when finished is allowed to assist other students or may pick one of the first explorers and research using books or internet and submit a report on that explorer, report should include personal information like date of birth and place of birth, it should also include area explored and effects of that exploration on the new world.
