Process
In your information gathering sessions you will need to take notes in your history books from the websites provided. You will then need to write your notes into readable paragraphs. After these have been checked you will then begin creating your
Each page is split into two sessions; one for research and paragraph writing and the other for publication on your website.
How to go about this assignment and work to the due date:
1. Sessions 1 and 2 (complete page 1 due Friday Week 5, 31st of May):
Page 1: How the physical features of Ancient Greece influenced the development of city states
- describe the impact of the climate, sea and mountain ranges of Ancient Greece on the development of self-governing city-states.
2. Sessions 3 and 4 (complete page 2 due Friday Week 6, 7th of June):
Page 2: Roles of key groups in Athenian and Spartan Society
- explain the roles of citizens, women and slaves in Athenian society.
- explain the roles of Spartiates, Perioikoi and Helpts in Spartan society.
- outline the rights of citizens in ancient Athens, their responsibilities and
the invention of freedom. (e.g right to vote,military service and attending assembly meetings).
3. Sessions 4 and 5 (complete page 3 due Friday Week 8, 21th of June):
Page 3: Significant beliefs, values and practices of the ancient Greeks
- describe the significant beliefs, values and practices of the ancient Greeks
- investigate the significant beliefs and values associated with warfare (e.g heroic
ideals as revealed in the Iliad) and military practices (e.g. army organisation)
4. Sessions 6 and 7 (complete page 4 due Friday Week 10, 5th of July):
Page 4: Contacts and conflicts within and/or with other societies
- Explain the nature of contact with other societies - trade with Egypt, Greek colonisation of the medeterranean.
- Breifly describe conflicts including the Peloponnesian and Persian wars.
- Describe the empire of Alexander the Great and the reach of Greek culture.
- Explain how contacts and conflicts resulted in the expansion of trade, colonisation and war.
- examining the historical context, early life and achievements of a significant historical figure from ancient Greece, and how they were perceived by their contemporaries
6. Sessions 10 and 11 Final copy of web site due Friday Week 2, Term 3, 2nd of August
- Final touches on website.
