Process

1. Listen to me read Sandra Boyntons story Your Personal Penguin and listen to Davy Jones (of the Monkees) musical rendition of this story. (If you wish to listen to the song on your own, go to http://www.workman.com/boynton)
2. Think about what having a penguin of your very own would be like. What would you two do together? Where would you live? How would your daily routine have to chance to include your penguin companion?
3. Use the following websites to become a penguin expert, noting which websites you use in your bibliography. (Again, use Purdue Universitys Online Writing Lab should you have any questions). Be sure to find the answers to ALL of the questions, as well as the 3-5 random facts you need about your specific type of penguin.

4. In answering the required questions, you may find it useful to print out the task portion of this Webquest, and take notes directly on that.
5. After you have found all of your facts, begin writing your CREATIVE story. The final product should be AT LEAST 3 double-spaced pages!!! Do not forget to include ONE line from Sandra Boyntons story; ensuring that you cite her and her book just like you do your online resources.
6. After you have finished your story, check for spelling, grammar, and mechanics errors.
7. Find a picture of your penguin, either online or you may draw one of your own. Be sure that this picture actually looks like the penguin you describe in your story.
8. Staple together your creative story and your accompanying picture, and hand them both in together.
9. If you finish early, continue researching penguins, so that you will have interesting facts to share with the class when we discuss and read our personal penguin stories aloud.
Or, you can quietly watch what the penguins at the Baltimore Zoo are currently doing, via their live-feed webcam! The Penguin Cam an be accessed by going to the following website: http://www.marylandzoo.org/meet/penguin-cam.htm
