Process

Step 1: Team & Job Assignments-

You will be assigned a team made up of 4-5 students. As we study each region, your team will be assigned a job. We will switch the jobs around for each region (so that you get to show your expertise in each one!). The following are descriptions of each job assignment:

  • Travel Agent- presents major tourist attractions in the region
  • Historian- Researches interesting facts, events, and people from the region
  • Geographer- studies and describes the climate, landforms, and luses of the region
  • Cartographer- involved with creating a map of the region and doing a population study

Step 2: Region Tour Guide

Once your team as been assigned a job, print out your section of the blank tour guide. Look over the blank guide. As a team, brainstorm ideas of where and how you will find the information needed to complete it. You may use encyclopedias, your textbook, trade books, dictionaries, or any other research source. Below are several internet resource links to get you started:

Step 3: Individual Roles-

Look over your team's copy of the tour guide, discuss your job, and decide how you will assign individual roles. Each person should do a rough copy of one section, and your team should collaborate to complete a final copy.

Step 4: Get to Work!-

Miss Pasquale will give you a deadline for completing your team's project. You will have many opportunities to work on the project in the classroom: during Social Studies class, rotations, and freetime. You may also take your copy of the blank tour guide home, in order to work on your individual role. Don't be afraid to ask your family members for help. BE CREATIVE! You may choose to use, photographs, drawings, clipart, and other artifacts that will help to make your project the best it can be. Remember, we are working to create and publish a real book. The more time you put into it, the better our final project will be!!!!

Step 5: "Presentation Day"-

The day that your presentation is due will also be "Presentation Day." On that day, your team will get to present your portion of the travel guide to the rest of the class. In other words, you will be the teacher! Miss Pasquale will grade your portion of the guide; and, the class will make suggestions of anything additional that we want to add to the project as a whole.

Step 6: Book Publishing Party

It will take alot of time and hard work to finish the project! But, the finished product will be worth it! Once, the class has studied and completed tour guides for each of the 5 regions, Miss Pasquale will have them bound together into a book and will set aside a special day, in order to have a "Book Publishing Party." One this day, your parents and friends will be invited to share in the excitement of your finished product. You and your family will get to sample some cuisine from each of the regions as you re-visit them in your book.

Good Luck! Your country and the students of Sri Lanka are counting on you!
