Section 1: What is Sustainability?    (35min)

  • As a class you will watch a short video which discusses the basics of Sustainability. (2min)
  • In your allocated group discuss the following questions: (5min)
  1. Do you think Sustainability is Important?
  2. Do you think you can impact Sustainability?
  • Identify a spokesperson for your group.Following teacher direction, present your groups thoughts / findings to the rest of the class. (10min)
  • Individually complete the multiple choice quiz located in the �Quiz� tab of this WebQuest. You may revisit the video (bellow) to assist your answers. (18min)

Section 2: What is an Ecological Footprint?    (65 min)
  • Follow the link bellow and use the �Bigfoot� calculator to determine your personal Ecological Footprint. (15min)
    1. Answer the questions honestly.
    2. Take note of your footprint in hectares.
    3. How many earth's would it take to sustain your footprint?
    4. Notify the teacher when you have completed this task.
          • In your allocated groups discuss your findings. (10min)
          1. Did your peers have the same footprint?
          2. If not, why?
          3. How do you think you might reduce your footprint?
          • You will now develop a collaborative Brainstorm with your group members. The focus of this brainstorm is to identify ways in which you can reduce your ecological Footprint. To do this you will need to: (40min)
          1. Select one group member to start a MindMeister template and share it with the other group members to that they can contribute.
          2. As a group Identify Key Focus Areas that influence your footprint.
          3. Identify ways to reduce the impact of these areas.
          4. Identify any problems that you may encounter within these areas.
          5. You may use the links bellow to guide your ideas.
