Better Vision - looking at Landscape Paintings throughout History

Process

When creating your gallery exhibition, there are some very important things to keep in mind.

1.  Although the exhibition will include many artists and paintings, all will have a unifying theme which is Landscape paintings.

2.  When you are choosing your works consider the size of the paintings. They have to be about the same size in order to create a line of vision. Remember, when printing the pictures you can change the size.

3.  Your artworks may come from any time period or art movement you like (starting from the 15th century up to now).  Try to be creative and innovative and use as many artworks we haven't studied before so you can teach the class something new.

4.  Your artworks can be traditional paintings and/or drawings. Digital artworks and Multimedia works or works made of untraditional materials are perfectly acceptable so long as you can obtain some research about the artist.

5.  Your group will be given a tri-fold board to present your project.  This board will contain images of all 5-7 of your artworks that are clearly labeled with the title, artist, and the year it was completed, your two paragraph research statement about each artist, style, technique used and period. As always, your board must be done artistically, and it should look like you spent some time on it.

6.  When you are writing your research about the artists, make sure you copy and paste the reference or web address at the bottom.

7.  You must work as a group to complete this entire project.  Divide up the responsibilities among your group members in order to accomplish everything successfully.  You will be graded on your ability to work as a group.

8.  There are many helpful links below that will help you with finding your artists and with viewing existing art museums to get your ideas flowing. Use them wisely as they will significantly help you with your project.

9. Note that landscape painting has undergone a huge change from the 15th century to the 20th. In the 20th century many boundaries, traditions, rules and concepts collapsed and diminished. Therefore you have to think carefully and look for the new definition of landscape in the 20th century to understand whether a certain artwork can be related to as a landscape painting or not.

I want everyone to have a fun time with this assignment!  This is your chance to teach me something new about art, and to show me what kind of art you would rather be learning about.  If you have been to an art museum, draw on that experience for inspiration, and if you have not, use this as your chance to create your dream art gallery experience.
