DAY ONE

1. The video chapter containing four segments on the introduction of  the Great Wall, the Forbidden City, the history of Kongfu, and improtant inventories. As you review them, compare and contrast how we today continue to use these innovations and more. Also, discuss how these innovations have literally melded and transformed into "global technology" of the world.

The Great Wall (02:35)
Dating back more than 2,000 years, the Great Wall is a most extraordinary achievement. Although it no longer serves as a barrier against invaders, it has become an important symbol of Chinese identity.

The Forbidden City (02:40)
This ornate palace took 100,000 artists and a million workers 14 years to build. Once constructed, only the emperor and his court were allowed inside. Now open to the public, it holds many secrets of life in imperial China.

The History of Kung Fu (03:00)
In A.D. 527, Buddhist teacher Da Mo developed a series of movements and breathing exercises based his observations of animals. These tools for meditation became the basis of kung fu, one of the world�s most popular martial arts.

Important Inventions (02:40)
Many inventions we take for granted today, including steel, gunpowder, and paper, originated in China many years before making their way to the West. From A.D. 600 to 1500, China was the most technologically advanced society on Earth.

HOMEWORK -  Write about your favorite cultural video and why it was your favorite.

DAY TWO

1. Begin the class with a brief discussion of present knowledge about China's history and impresstions. You are explained that China is the location of some of the world's earliest civilizations, which developed around the Yellow River and the Yangtze River. Find these rivers on a map in your textbook or on the globe.

Why do you think people might have settled there?

2. You are then presented with an overview powerpoint on different aspects of ancient Chinse culture: philosophy, nationality, costume, caligraphy, arts, food, tea, architecture, holidays, music and Kongfu.

3. You need to access the site, General Facts of China, and complete the graphic organizer, Country Report.

HOMEWORK - Read Day 2 Power Point Lesson 1 and answer all of the questions in green color in your notebook on looseleaf

DAY THREE

Read Day 3 power point Lesson 2 and answer all of the questions in green color iun your notebook or loose leaf paper. Drawing should be on computer paper not lined paper.

 DAY FOUR

 Read power power Lesson 3 - Mongol Empire and answer questions within the power point and the worksheet p. 50 given out during class.
