1. You will be working on this project in groups of 4 that the teacher will assign. 2. Each person in the group will pick one of the four topics to study. All topics must be used, so there will be only 1 person per topic. The topics are: Executive Branch, Legislative Branch, Judicial Branch, Checks and Balances System. 3. Your task is as follows: Task 1 - Print a copy of the graphic organizer from the links below. You will fill this out about your specific topic as you view the other resources. Task 2- View the websites listed below. They are the ones which say URL. Task 3 - View the following YouTube videos from the resources below: Schoolhouse Rock 3 Branches of Government Smart Songs 3 Branches Rap Facts of Congress - Checks and Balances ( make sure you use the headphones when viewing YouTube videos) Task 4- Get together and discuss what the 4 of you have learned about the topics you were investigating. Go in this order: Executive, Legislative, Judicial, Checks and Balances. Complete the remainder of your graphic organizer as you discuss. Task 5 - Write in your journal what you have learned about our government branches. Explain why the founding fathers set up our government in this way and your feelings on its success. Task 6- View the YouTube video "I'm Just A Bill" from Schoolhouse Rock. Task 7 - Read one of the books located in the book basket. You can pick either the book House Mouse Senate Mouse or How the Government Works. Task 8 - Complete a presentation to show what you have learned. Your presentation can be a poster, PowerPoint, cartoon, or a song you create like the ones you viewed. Be creative! If you think of some other unique way your group would like to present the information, check with the teacher first and get it approved. The final activity will be done class wide. I will divide the class into the different branches, we will come up with a bill, and role play it through the long process of becoming a law. |
