Process

You are in your groups of four. You will now need to break up for your different roles. The first role is a travel agent for an eco-based trip. The second role, which will have two member of the group who are ecologists that will provide the food web for the biome and the biotic and abiotic factors that are associated. The third part is making a 3-D model of your biome. The last part of the assignment is presenting the information learned, so your other classmates will gain knowledge about the other biomes of the world.

ROLE 1

You are a travel agent for your biome. Your job is to find an eco-based trip for someone to visit and witness the flora and fauna in your biome. You need to suggest places the stay, accommodation and any other documents someone would need to bring along on their trip. Refer to the tools resource below for some suggested sites for eco-trips.

ROLE 2

You are ecologist. Your job is to create a logical food web for your biome. Along with creating a food web you need to list the biotic and abiotic factors that are associated with your biome and how they make affect your organisms. In addition, make sure to write some interesting facts about the flora and fauna you choose. Make sure you are picking flora and fauna that make logical sense. For example, you pick savanna, but you happen to choose a savanna in South American and your food web has a lion on it. This would be an example that does not make logical sense. So be careful to research your fauna of choice, so other students benefit. Refer to the tools resource below for some suggested sites that will aid you in understand where organisms are distributed (located) on the globe. Also, think about the effects humans have on your particular biomes (positive or negative).

ROLE 3

Your job is to create a 3-D model of the biome based on the food web chosen, so you may want to communicate with the members who are working on role two. I want your 3-D model to make logical sense. Refer to role 2 for what I mean when making logical sense. When making your model be creative, refer to the tools resource below for some suggest sites on how to make 3-D models.

BRINGING IT ALL TOGETHER

You are now back together in your group of four. As a group, you will need to decide how you will present this material to the class. I am not limiting you to just presenting using PowerPoint or some other presentation software. It is your choice on how you express the information learned to the class. The only limitation is we cannot go outside for your presentation. EVERYTHING MUST BE DONE IN THE CLASSROOM.
