Follow these steps completely and in order. Part 1: Titanic Sample: Let's Look at What We're Doing Here!
When you evaluate an online source, there are several things you can look at to see if the information is reliable and useful - like you learned in the Brain Pop video. Let's look at how to do this by examining a website and an evaluation form that someone else did for a project on the Titanic. Look at the Titanic Facts website found in the Resources Area below. Then take a look at the Titanic Evaluation Form (also in the Resources Area). Did they think this website was reliable and useful? This is an example of what you will now be doing when you search for treasure online! Part 2: Your Turn to Practice1. Now it's your turn to give it a shot! Read King Tut Website 1 about King Tutankhamen. Using the Blank Evaluation Form located in the Resources Area below, answer the evaluation questions to justify why or why not this is a valuable source. 2. Have you found real treasure or fool's gold? Check to see how well you explored that source by comparing your answers to the Sample Evaluation Form 1 (in the Resources Area).
Do you agree with the assessment given in the teacher's example? Would you use the information from this website to help with your project? Why or why not? 3. Practice makes perfect! See how well King Tut Website 2 would fare in your exploration! Complete another Blank Evaluation Form to determine if this website will help your discovery of King Tut. 4. Did you find any treasures? Check your answers about this website with the ones on the Sample Evaluation Form 2 (in the Resources Area).
Once you feel confident in your ability to locate the REAL treasures of the Internet, move along to the Evaluation section of this WebQuest! |
