  • Be sure to clearly label the orchards by using a color-coded key.
  • Use colored pencils to color your map and make sure that it is neat and easy to read.

**Only 1 map will be submitted per group**

Step 2/Day 2: -individual work

When farmers grow plants the climate is a key factor as to how the product will taste and look.  It is important for you to understand what climate means and the influence it can have on apples.

  • Use the KWL Chart to document what you know, want to know before you read the following articles.
  • Please follow the links below labeled Climate 1 and Climate 2 and read.
  • When you have finished reading, complete the KWL chart and document what you learned from the readings.

**Each student will submit a KWL chart**

Step 3/Day 3: - group work

There are many different apples that are grown throughout The United States. Lucy needs your help figuring out what apples will be at the orchards where she is visiting.  The climates across the country affects the varieties of apples and when they will be harvested.  Let's figure out what will be where and chart it!

  • Please use the attached chart below to fill in the facts about the apples that Lucy will see on her trip.
  • Choose 5 different apples to use on the chart, consider the name, color, taste, and when the apple was founded when charting your answers.
  • Use red, green, or yellow colored pencils to indicate the color of each apple.

**Each group member will complete their own chart**

Step 4/Day 4: - individual work

Apples are a significant part of the American culture and have been around for a very long time.  Please take this time to create a timeline that represents when the 5 different types of apples, that you charted yesterday, were introduced to the American people.  A timeline has been provided below.
**Each group member will complete their own timeline**

Step 5/Day 5: - group work

The individuals who grow apples provide a very important service to the people of our country as well as many other countries around the world.  The growers are providing a product that many people can use for food and, in turn, they will make money so they can support their families and pay the workers.

You all have most definitely outdone yourselves!  Lucy and her family will be very excited to see all of the information that you have gathered for them.  Let's get in our groups and get our facts in order!

Create a presentation in Microsoft PowerPoint to share with your classmates and the Pomology family. The purpose of the presentation is to demonstrate what you have learned throughout this adventure.

  • The presentation must include 10 slides
  • Be sure to use pictures and colors that viewers will be able to see
  • Utilize the Notes section of the presentation to document what you want to say about each slide
  • Choose 1 group member who will be in charge of advancing the slides throughout the presenation
  • All other group members should divide the slides and take turns presenting to the group
