Now we come to the real job.
We have seen the
history of algebra, enjoyed with Simba and went shopping with Moey.
Everybody with me. So lets put your hands
together the ride is taking another flight.
This is what I would like you to do:
STEP ONE
I want you to view resource no. 1. It is a screencast prepared using PPT.
As you go through resource no. 1 I want to pay attention
to these focus questions and if possible note down their answers.
The questions are as follows:
- What is algebra?
- What are coefficient , variables and
indices?
STEP TWO
Next I would like
you to go to resource
no.2 and answer the activity questions I
have put based on resource no. 1.
I expect you to work in groups of three for this activity. After you
finish a class presentation will be done. You may also use some visual aids to
present your work. The presentation will be followed by peer marking ie. You
will get to make judgments on the other groups solutions.

STEP THREE
Now view resource no.
3 another screencast prepared using PPT and
Goanimate.com. It looks at how to identify like terms and unlike terms in
algebra.
STEP FOUR
Move onto resource no.4
Its a short exercise on identifying like terms and unlike terms in an
algebraic expression. For this activity you will choose a friend and work in
pairs. Afterwards when the solution is provided you will mark each others work.
STEP FIVE
Next I would like you to go to resource no. 5. It is another screen cast using PPT which looks at more
complex algebraic terms and how to deal with them.
STEP SIX
Go to resource no. 6. Watch this video on simplifying more complex algebraic
terms.

Now that you have
seen resources 5
and 6 it is going to help you in doing the worksheet provided in Resource no. 7.

EIGHT
Watch the last
video on resource no. 8 which looks at
simplifying algebraic terms with brackets as this will be our next topic.
This video will
provide you with some insight with what will be done next in algebra.
