Process

Task 1 - Each team should have received index cards from the mission specialist with the 5 major purposes for why foods are modified. Either select a topic randomly or have each team select one card.

Task 2 - Prepare a presentation for your classmates that includes all the information asked for in the tasks that follow. Be creative: you want to hook your classmates into watching.

Remember to use only scientific sites to gather your information. Wikepedia does not qualify as a scientific site. Use edu., gov. etc. An example is provided in the resources below. When in doubt check with the mission specialist.

Task 3 - Find out the WHY and HOW of genetically modified foods. Remember to keep the information as basic as possible. Don't write what you do not understand. Always put the information in your own words and do not copy and paste.

      - What is the target audience - Who would buy the product and why?
      - What does the modification do to make the crop better or more useful?
      - How was the product genetically modified?

Task 4 - Find 4 products that are available in your local grocery store that have been modified in that way. If you have pharmaceuticals you should find 4 products that are available at your local pharmacy.

Task 5 - Lastly, using google images, search the topic "GM food cartoons" and find a cartoon that is related to your topic. Most of the cartoons are copyright protected so you will not be able to post them to your glog. Instead add the URL and the name of the cartoon to the glog so that your viewer can go to the site and access the cartoon. In a brief summary of no more than 4 sentences explain your selection. Make sure to explain if it is for or against the GM modification.

Once you have completed all the tasks above you are ready to present to your classmates and help them make informed decisions.
