IMPORTANCE OF BUDGETING
Process
Objectives:
You as a student need:
- realise the importance of budgeting
- create an accurate budget
- to develop realistic and achievable ideas on your income and expenses
- analyse your savings accordingly
- Fill in the Expenses Worksheet
- Website references
- Fill in the Budgeting Woksheet
- Prepare a Summary Report
You will find an Expenses Worksheet as Resources 1.
With references to research done on Resource 2 - 4 you need to identify some of your expenses and fill in the relevant section of the Expenses Worksheet
Once your have filled in your Expenses Worksheet, then you fill in Budgeting Template for a month.
Income
You have a great job earning $18000 yearly. On that you pay 15% income tax. You need to fill in your monthly net pay
Expenses
1. Housing
Are you going to stay with your parents always? Follow their rules and meet their family obligations? Of course not. Therefore, you must find a new place to live. Which one would you prefer - a flat in town/city or a house on your own in the surburbs?
How would you live? Alone or with a mate?
2. Travelling
For you to travel to and from work and go around, you need to decide whether to purchase a car or take a bus ride.
3. Food
It will include all meals, whether ready made food or home made meals. You have to decide on the following:
- Purchasing foods from restaurant all the times...... OR.......
- Buy groceries and cook most of the time at home
It will include expenses of Gas, Electricity and Water. Your utilities per month will be $90.
5. Entertainment
All workers need to socialise and have fun after a long weeks work.
What type of fun activities would you prefer and how much it will cost you.
You need to estimate the amount of money you will need each month for entertainment.
6. Clothing
This will include all the cost on clothes, shoes and jewellery and make up bought.
You need to total all your expenses.......
Deduct your total expenses from your total income and calculate you monthly savings.....
