Cake Decorating

Session 1: Student will browse  the Wikipedia website and read the definition for cake decorating, cake decorating as an art and cake decorating in popular cultures.


Session 2: Now that you have learned the definition of cake decorating, it's now time to move on. You are now invited to watch a video on how to decorate an plain cake.  You will fine the video very interesting so watch very keenly.


Session 3: I know that you enjoyed  watching the video.You should be able to write the steps for decorating a cake at this time. You may begin now. Please pay attention to detail to ensure that when you are given the chance to decorate your cake the process will be a smooth one.


Session 4: Watch a video on how to make fondant bows. The will assist you in making  flower and leave to decorate the cake.

Session 5. Place yourselves in groups of two. Storyboard the design for what you want you cake to look like. You may also check the website on the resource section for ideas on how to design your decoration.

Session 6: Work in your groups  and discuss your ideas for decorating the cake and make changes where necessary.

Session 7: Gather all the tools and equipment that you will require to decorate the cake. Make a check list to ensure that you have all that you will need.

Session 8: Measure the ingredients that you will need to decorate the cake. Please remember that measurement by weight is more accurate than measurement by volume. You may use a measuring cup for liquid ingredients but use a scale for solid ingredients.

Session 9: Attire in your personal protective equipment and decorate your cake, using all the skills and tecniques you have learnt. Pay attention to detail, be creative and have fun. Finally, evaluate yourself against the rubric.


Session 10: Review all that you did for the past nine sessions. Write the strengths and weaknesses and say what you could do to improve your performance. Go the the website on tips for decorating, read the information and prepare for the advance decorating class. Be sure to browse the sixth resource site that is provided for you.
