Complete the "Music/Art and Your Life" survey listed in the RESOURCES section at the bottom of this page.

Survey = 20 points

2) Read the overview of "The Last Lynching" and view the video in class, and then write your response to the video.

Response should be written as well-constructed paragraphs and focus on answering the following questions:
a. What was your reaction to the video?
b. How far do you think we have come in terms of race relations?
c. In your opinion, what progress has been made?
d. What issues still exist?
e. How do we, both individually and as a nation, move forward?
f. Compare/contrast the story of Emmett Till to that of Michael McDonald.

Explore the website Independent Lens (PBS) and its introduction to protest music entitled "Strange Fruit." Take time to fully explore each webpage listed below: 

a. Slavery, 1776-1830
b. Abolitionist and Women's Rights, 1830s -1900s
c. The Workers, 1900s -1930s
d. The Great Depression, 1930 - 1940
e. War, Labor, and Race, 1940s - 1950s
f. Civil Rights and Vietnam, 1960s - 1970s
g. Anti-Establishment, 1980s - 1990s
h. Message Music, 2000- present

After reading the content and listening to the audio tracks, create an annotated time-line to demonstrate what you've learned about each time period. BE CREATIVE! (You may include additional historical and arts-related information to "spice up" your project.) Instructions for creating the timeline and examples are listed in the RESOURCES section at the bottom of this page.
