STEP 1: SELF ASSESSMENT (individual)

Complete the following three activities to gain a deeper understanding of your own preferences, strengths, and values. There are no “right” or “wrong” answers - the goal is to have some fun and get to know yourself a little better!


Activity 1: Personality Assessment
Watch this video about why aligning your career focus with your personality makes sense.


Now you’ll complete a personality assessment as described in the video. Complete this Myer’s Briggs inspired personality test that will help you identify your personality type, strengths, and preferences. Answer the questions honestly without putting too much thought into it.  Afterwards, review your detailed type description as well the links in the menu on the right side of the screen about Career Choices, Learning Style, and Communication Skills. Take a moment to reflect on your results – do they align with your own assessment of your preferences? Remember – there is no perfect personality type for the fashion industry!


Activity 2:  Discussion Board
Once completed, visit the Discussion Board forum for Myer’s Briggs and post the following:


A – Begin a new thread with your 4-letter type as the subject. Include a brief description in your own words of the personality type. (If another students has the same 4-letter type and has already posted, begin your own separate thread.) Identify an example from your academic or professional experience to include that either does or does not support this assessment. (One post per student)


B – Utilize your knowledge of careers in the fashion industry as well as a review of their personality type from the website to comment on a classmate’s post, suggesting a job that might align well with their strengths. Example: an ESFP thrives in a social environment, is outgoing, and loves entertaining, which might be a great fit for a career in event planning or fashion show productions. (One comment)


Activity 3: Values Checklist

Values can be defined as the beliefs, attitudes, and things that are important to us. Being aware of your personal values is another important part of understanding what career path will best suit you.

about the three main types of values and follow the instructions to complete the checklists. Include a list of the values you prioritized and the summary of your findings as part of your Week 3 Course Blog posting.
