Still Life in Art

This assignment is very similar to Task 1, except that you will be writing about one of your own pieces of work. 

Use the third person forms in your writing, not the "I" form. 

For example:     WRONG: "I was born in a small town in North Carolina in 1987. 

Then I moved to New York City....."     

CORRECT: "The artist was born in a small town in North Carolina in 1987. 

She moved to New York City in......

"Your assignment will contain:

I. An Introduction:   a. A copy of the picture you are writing about.   b. The name of the artist.   

c. The name of the artwork;    d. The size and material used.

II. A brief description of the artist: his/her life, background, education; 

any important historical or artistic movements during this time period.

III. 4 Steps of Art Analysis

a. Step 1: a literal description of the painting.  Describe the work as completely as you can: The objects in the painting.             

b. Step 2: Colors, techniques and artistic elements used.    

c. Step 3: What is the message?

d. Step 4: Judgement: Is the art successful?  Explain the artistic choices the creator made and the effects these choices produce.  Your personal opinion of the artwork, with backup supporting your opinion.  What draws you to the painting; what repels you?
